The Oregon Trail was one of the most famous paths of Western Expansion in the United States. Originally traveled by explorers and fur traders, the series of over 2,000 miles of trails helped open up the land west of the Continental
Divide. In the 1840s, the US government promised land to homesteaders and soon the Great Migration was underway. The trail began in Independence, Missouri and ended in Oregon City, Oregon.
